Coping Suggestions- Try and take time for yourself - this is not easy. As a mom you have so many responsibilities to take care of but if you can try and have your spouse, a relative or a friend watch your children so you can do something you feel good about. If having someone watch your kids is not possible, try and make a retreat for yourself in your own home. A bedroom that is relaxing and tranquil with calming or soothing music for just a few minutes a day can be a huge help in recharging your soul.
- Ask people who have children with ASD how they get things done. Some people have been at this longer than others and they may be an immeasurable resource in how to deal with the trials and tribulations of ASD life.
- WATCH A FUNNY MOVIE! Laughter has been proven to heal people. If you are used to watching real life dramas or stories that have a lot of sadness it takes a toll on your heart. Recharge with a great movie that takes you to another world. Escapism can never be underestimated.Even movies like Pirates of the Caribbean can bring you out of your world and help you forget your stresses for a while. Not to mention, Johnny Depp is so exciting to watch in anything he does!
- Write a journal. Expressing yourself in any form seems to soothe even the most tumultuous of emotions.
